Lights
Night Riding

With modern lighting systems riding at night can be just as much fun as during the day. For mountain biking a normal set of "blinky lights" just won't cut it - high power beams lights that light the trail are a must. Now the lights are smaller they have also become popular with road riders to light country lanes, and many commuters rely on them to be seen and get respect on the roads (car drivers treat you more like a motor bike).

Night Riding

Technology

Super LED bulbs: all of our main systems have LED lights. These aren't normal LED's found in commuter lights but instead have a light output equivalent to the best halogen and HID systems around. Because they generate a lot less heat the run times are significantly longer, and generally the lamp units are smaller. So far we have never seen an LED fail, whereas conventional bulbs regulaly blow with high replacement costs.

Lithium batteries: the battery is the main expense of the light system but you get what you pay for. Lithium batteries are used in laptops and mobile phones because they are very small and light but have a high power output. They are much less prone to "memory effect" which is where conventional batteries degrade in performance every time they are charged.

Mounting: All our lights can be mounted on oversized or standard sized handlebars, and the batteries also have versatile clamps. Some systems can be helmet mounted to give a second light source - ask us for details.

Demo Lights

At Bigfoot we have an extensive range of up to date demo lights that can be hired for £10 a ride, so you can try before you buy. Contact the shop to make a booking, please give us plenty of notice as they usually get booked out in advance.

The Bigfoot Bike Club has an active night ride group - head over to the BBC website for ride info.

USE Exposure Lights

Exposure lights have been upgraded again for 2010. Building on the success of the MaXx range released last year the MaXx-2 models offer extra options such as a 4 LED version with 960 lumen output and a remote switch is also available.

The cable free design means that everything is packed into one handlebar mounted unit - no messing about with strapping a battery to the frame then wiring it up to the light unit.

At Bigfoot we have been selling Exposure lights ever since the first batch was made. Their key advantage over other brands is that they are made in Sussex so it is easy to sort out any technical issues.

For full technical information visit the Exposure website.
